New video begins production.

It's a stop motion video, about the adventures of a pirate captain who time travels. Due to my recent run-ins with UMG, who probably hate me more by the minute, I am considering recording a drum cover of the song I want to use (so far undecided on the actual song). It was also decided to be a tentative 'to be continued'.

However, I'm having an extremely annoying problem with it. My Mini USB cable (the very invention of which I believe was unnecessary and stupid) won't fit in the Mini USB hole (which doubles as A/V Out, which I also think is unnecessary). It just won't frigging go and it frustrates me.

In Other News:

There is an awesome and timely site that has just sprung up from nowhere, already hitting the Digg and Reddit home pages. It's here, and I recommend you contribute. I did. It felt right.

Also, I should point out that we are now OUT OF SCHOOL FOR TWO WEEKS HOORAY. Just had to get that out there.

Peace,
J

Song of the whatever. One.

I can't really be bothered to do Song Of The Day like I used to on MSN, and I might have more than one per week, so I'm just going to do Song Of The Whatever, and I'll just post good music whenever I run into it.
Today's:
MIA - Paper Planes - DFA Remix [from Hancock]

Oh yeah, and I didn't make the video (obviously). There's no official, so this photo mashup is by "mkayitschloe" from YouTube.

Musick

Just recently I've been discovering a shitload of music I like after a very long famine, which came much to my surprise. This is partially because of XM (oops I mean Sirius now)'s new channel, Channel 39, which plays nonstop Led Zeppelin; and partially because of my rediscovery of The Hype Machine.

Here's some of the songs I've run into:

Rihanna - Rehab
P!nk - So What
Heartsrevolution - Ultraviolence
Serj Tankian - Sky Is Over
Led Zeppelin - Nobody's Fault But Mine
Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
DJ Zebra - Hey We Will Rock Ya (Queen vs Outkast)
Jay-Z ft. Santogold - Brooklyn Go Hard
MGMT ft Justice, Pitbull, Lykke Li, and Kings Of Leon; mixed by Rodeo: Kids Are Your Friends
Boston - Rock & Roll Band
Boston - More Than A Feeling
Elvis - In The Ghetto [in my opinion, the kind of music he should have always done instead of his stupid f***ing doo-wop]
Lords Of Acid - James Brown Is Dead
Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home

I should also attribute a few of these to Garret, Phil, DigitalPh33r, SecretPants.net, and my drum teacher.

Also? Just throwing this out there, but I've been noticing a rash of games lately that sell an update for ten bucks to unlock all content in the game, and Mercs 2 just came out with a patch which allows this cheat. Why doesn't Rainbow Six Vegas 2 have a similar item in the Marketplace? The game has already sucked hundreds of unenjoyable hours away from me in a vain attempt to get the following items:

OSand Camo
OBallistics Mask
ORiot Mask
XLeather Armour
ONight Vision Goggles (visible to others)
OTactical Goggles
XFlight Helmet
XBandana
XRetro Glasses
XRaging Bull (actually not as good as some of the more police-y pistols)

TL;DR: I want this. I am willing to pay for it. DO YOU HEAR ME UBISOFT?! I WILL PAY YOU AGAIN!

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts And Bolts - Demo Review

Well, after Mirror's Edge put a bad taste in my mouth, I really didn't want to try the other download I got that day, BK:NB. I thought it would be cartoony and childish. I was only half-right.

CONS:
Worlds are so large, you are easily lost and confused at what to do first.
Have to be a diehard Banjo fan to get 96% of jokes and storyline.
Dialogue subtitles (because everyone speaks gibberish) are TINY and written in a childish scrawl font. Also, sometimes scroll waaaaaaaaay too fast on their own.
Overwhelming, almost scary amount to accomplish.
Challenges will require a lot of experimentation and restarts until you get it absolutely perfect.

PROS:
The most beautiful cartoonish graphics ever, hands down.
Extremely unique art style.
Controls work well in all spots.
Vehicle builder is easy.
You can build a vehicle or switch to a different one at any given time.
Sometimes funny even to series outsiders like myself.

And there's one thing I really want to point out. At the age of seven, when I got an N64, I felt a sense of wonder and awe at the games Rare made, and just video games in general. It was all so amazing, so new. Now, good games have shuffled themselves into two major categories: Innovative and Safe. Innovative games step outside the box, games like Portal and Mirror's Edge, which show the gamer things they've never seen before. Safe games, like most FPSes and a whole lot of the mid-to-high production value games out there, go with what gamers are used to in their respective genres. Never in the last two generations of gaming can I remember one game that used familiar, safe, immediately accessible controls AND stepped waaaaay outside the box. Portal was getting there. Mirror's Edge aimed for and missed that spot (probably because main character Faith is braindead). Braid got close. But BK:NB gives me a general vibe of childish glee. Of discovery, not forced exploration or linear levels, or easter eggs, or sometimes, not of even mildly related objects (the game feels like some enemies, for example, were decided on at a designer's meeting that was opened with the sentence, "Look what I doodled!", and that's a good thing). It just has so much content shoved in there, and clearly with a lot of effort put into every single part. The characters, enemies, and weird, tripped-out everything-is-metal graphics look like a ridiculously imaginative, but still coherent, Doctor Seuss dream.

This game is the first in almost eight years to really give me a sense of "Wow, I've never seen that before!" and "I could never have dreamed that up!" With only a few extremely minor flaws (I have my fingers crossed that they have time to fix the godawful subtitles), it's overall a fun, expansive, creative game. But most importantly, it has done what no other could truly do. Through some immeasurable process, it has restored my faith in video games as art, as a window to the imagination or the soul.

TL;DR: Score: 9. (9.4 if you have an HDTV and fast reading skills)

Video: Incorporated Ep14

Guess I forgot to post this while I was wrestling with Songbird (GAAAAAAAAAAAAAA), but I put up the new Incorporated. That's something you would notice if you paid attention, son.

Songbird sucks

I went and got the media player (Songbird 1.0.0) that everyone is talking about, and boy, does it suck. I told it to sync my iTunes library, and it would have been perfect, if I had wanted my mom's iTunes library instead of mine. And if I had wanted none of the songs to work. So that was frustrating, but it was just getting started. I have followed every FAQ, every Yahoo Answer, every help topic, and I cannot get the damned program to connect to the internet! I have done everything in my power, and apparently, this is a common problem! I'm pissed off. DO NOT download this program until they get some bug fixes into it.

That bug makes the program pointless and redundant anyway! I'll stick with iTunes, thank you very much.

That;s what I'm saying!

Zero Punctuation just reviewed Mirror's Edge, and the main reason I love him is that he always voices my exact opinion. Well, he didn't let me down this time one bit.

Twitter s**tter

I signed up for Twitter, just to see what it's like. My Twitter name is JasonBoer, and I might start posting news that's too small or insignificant to post here. Rants, images, and longer news updates will still be posted here.

Also, Incorporated Episode 1 with commentary is uploaded.
